**Breeding Farms:**

Breeding farms were institutions in the American South focused on increasing the population of enslaved African Americans through controlled reproduction. Established primarily after the abolition of the transatlantic slave trade in 1808, these farms aimed to sustain labor demands for the expanding American plantation economy. Enslaved individuals were forced into relationships to produce children born into slavery, adding to the profit and control of slaveholders. This practice inflicted severe psychological trauma, disrupted family and cultural bonds, and bolstered pseudoscientific racism. The legacy of breeding farms profoundly damaged Black American communities, leaving enduring scars of dehumanization and generational trauma.
