Becoming begins
with intention.
Black American creativity, discernment, and resilience have carried generations through extraordinary conditions. Newbeings 1619 brings that inheritance into deliberate practice: learning together, examining what holds us back, and building the knowledge, relationships, and systems that help us thrive.
Our work centers the Black American experience, particularly the descendants of people enslaved in the United States. We connect historical understanding with the decisions we make today and the possibilities we create for tomorrow.
Correction is a practice. Evolution is the purpose.
Correction means being willing to question an inherited assumption, revise an inaccurate account, change a harmful habit, or improve a plan when the evidence calls for it. Evolution is what becomes possible when we put that understanding to work in ourselves, our families, and our communities.
To become a Newbeing is to take an active part in that work. Our name holds memory and possibility together: a reckoning with the history signified by 1619, and a commitment to who we can become.

Our commitment
Progress must be open to correction.
Being data driven means showing how we arrive at a conclusion. Our standard is to distinguish measured facts from calculated estimates, explain assumptions and limitations, and revise the work when better evidence becomes available.
AI supports research and exploration; human judgment and source verification remain essential. The ecosystem continues to develop, with tools at different stages of maturity. Learning from that process is part of the work.
